Although I’ve been crocheting for over 10 years at this point there are things that took me a long time and there are things that I’m still learning. Recently I’ve become interested in making my own patterns. There’s a lot that goes into making a pattern like learning size guides for many different sizes not just your own. Luckily for me and all of you there are tons of guides and online calculators that can aid in that process. I’ve recently been finding so many of these crochet websites and oh my have they helped a lot.

Not to mention that all of these websites are free to use.
There are also so many communities in the crocheting and knitting world as well as tons of resources for free (and of course paid) patterns.
Here are 10 crochet websites you will find useful as a crocheter.
If your brand new to crocheting, make sure to check out my ultimate guide to crocheting.
Calculators
If your anything like me, you enjoy creating and the creative process. Not math. Luckily for us, there are calculators for pretty much everything we need. In order for these to be useful you need to commit to making gauge swatch. I know. I also hate making a gauge swatch. But don’t click away, If you make a gauge swatch you can very accurately guess measurements which might prevent loads of frogging later.
Guage swatch is much better than frogging an entire piece.

How much yarn do you need?
Crochet calculator for how much yarn you need to finish a project. This is good if you like to plan some projects before you go to the craft store. Or even for pattern making to be able to inform people of how much yarn they will need to complete the pattern in their size.
How many stitches per row?
This calculator estimates how many stitches you need per row to get a desired width. This calculator is good for multiples like if you’re doing a cluster of 6 and you want to know how many 6 stitch clusters you’ll need for your row.
Increase and decrease calculator
Another helpful crochet calculator is this increase and decrease calculator by joyofmotioncrochet.com. Did you ever know there are so many crochet resources available at our fingertips to aid in our craft! This calculator is for both knitting and crocheting and the directions are thankfully quite clear on how to use this calculator.
Yarn comparison calculator
This final crochet calculator is pretty wild. This yarn substitution calculator by easycrochet.com is here for us when we didn’t use the how much yarn we actually needed for the project calculator before we started our project. Not all yarn even of the same weight and material are equal. This is so helpful for a comparison of different types of yarns.
Grid and pattern design
I have been obsessed with stitch fiddle ever since I found out that it existed. There is a paid version of this website, but you can use it in a large capacity for free. There is the option to make an account to be able to save all of your work, but you don’t even need to do that to use it and try it out!
Stitch fiddle works for crochet, knitting, cross stitch and so much more. It’s so fun especially for color work to figure out how you’d crochet a picture.
I’ve been using stitch fiddle to try to figure out patterns. They have all the stitch symbols that you can just click on and add in.
If you need a guide of basic crochet symbols take a look at this blog post!
I designed that pin with all of the crochet symbols by using stitch fiddle!
Size Standards
This is the standards of sizes by craft yarn council! This one is an amazing resource for making patterns and giving gifts. There are adult men and womans sizes as well as babies and infants. I can’t believe I found out about this just a few months ago. It’s a game changer for sure.
If you’re making a pattern, I think it’s really nice when people offer the pattern in multiple sizes. These people don’t make every size they offer they just make one or a few. By using these standards in combination with the multiple calculators listed above you can create and edit patterns in every size.
Crochet pattern websites/ Communities
If you’ve been here for a while I’m sure you’ve heard of most of these crochet websites but for the newbies, I’m here to tell you some pretty awesome places to not only find patterns free and paid but communities to be able to explore in the crochet/knitting world.

Raverly is one of the biggest platforms for patterns! You can create a profile on this website and save patterns you want to make into wish lists. You can also publish any patterns you create on here as well.
Lovecraft is also a great pattern resource as well as community which similarly to revelry you can create a free profile and save patterns into wish lists and also post patterns you make.
Another website that is an amazing pattern resource is Hobbii.com. This website has a ton of yarn as well that goes on sale all the time. I currently have a cart filled of so much yarn I want to buy from them. They have both paid patterns and loads and loads of free patterns to try!
There are so many crochet websites with free patterns including this one Yarnspirations.com which has over 10,000 free patterns on the site. Not only do they have free patterns, but they also have an array of yarn and supplies as well as a pretty awesome stitch along community section as well to check out.
Well, we already did 10 websites but let’s do another one as a bonus. I could keep going just raving about all these awesome crochet websites for patterns and communities.
This last one I’m going to mention is one of the biggest brands of yarn that if your new here it will surely become one of your favorite brands of yarn.
Lion brand yarn not only sells yarn, but their website has tons of free and paid crochet and knitting patterns to go with the yarn.
I love seeing crochet kits. Lion brand has crochet kits of patterns and the yarn that goes with it which is so perfect for beginners.
I hope with all of these crochet websites that I’ve maybe inspired you to try creating your own pattern. Or maybe you find the next thing you’re going to make by using one of these websites! Let me know if this was helpful!
Happy crocheting!
