I’ve never ordered from Hobbii yarn before however I’ve been a long-time browser of their yarns and patterns. I’ve really been wanting to try their yarn. I thought what better way to be able to try different kinds of their yarn by ordering a lucky pack and doing a little yarn review. By trying out a bunch of different yarns by them I’ll be able to give a good Hobbii yarn review.
If you haven’t heard of hobbii yarn or their lucky yarn packs before, hobbii yarn is a website that has basically everything from yarn, patterns (free and paid), and all the hooks, needles and notions you could ever need. Lucky packs are mystery packages! You can buy a mystery package for acrylic, cotton, wool, shine, and mixed.
I chose acrylic to start. One reason was because their cotton bag was sold out. Secondly, it’s the cheapest one they offer (currently 15.90 at the time I’m writing this)
The bag is said to have 500grams (17.6) oz of yarn in it. Stay tuned because I’m going to measure this below.
Shipping costed around 5$ which wasn’t too bad for the amount of yarn that this has in it.
What I’m hoping to get:
I’m writing this before I even get the package in the mail! Can’t wait to look back on this in a week and see if it lived up to my expectations!
- Enough of each type of yarn to make a larger type of project like a cardigan or a t-shirt.
- Hoping for different weights of yarn. I’ve seen lots of DK yarn on their website which isn’t something I’ve experimented a ton with so I’m hoping for some lighter weight yarns.
- Color. When I’m picking out yarn for myself, I can tend to stay on the neutral side. I’m expecting some pops of color to get me out of my color comfort zone. But I’m really hoping no red.
Shipping
I chose the standard shipping which was 5$.
The shipping was really fast, I received my bag in less than a week of ordering which was super surprising!
The bag
I received 4 skeins of yarn. 3 were of a bulky size and one was a medium weight. Looking back at “what I wanted” I was looking to try their DK yarn but I didn’t receive any of that.
The bag was saved however by the color. I got a gorgeous lime green yarn that wasn’t something I would have purchased for myself but I’m thinking of all the crazy thing I can do with it and I do really like it. I’m currently thinking I’m going to make some kind of 80’s inspired legwarmers with it!
The value
I found all the yarn I got and calculated how much the bag was worth!
2 of these at 12.10 each. Already the bag is worth more than I paid for it.
I got another color of this yarn too. It’s a grey (even though it says dove blue) which is more of what I use regularly and am drawn to.
The last one I got was this amigo XL Melange in a super pretty speckled pink color. This yarn was on sale and I’m going to go with the sale price for the sake of the final total just because its the most accurate.
In total with the 5$ shipping I paid 20$ for this bag. The total of yarn I received was 43$. I’m really happy with the bag, I got double the value of the yarn I would have gotten if I bought them outright.
The weight
The bag is said to be 500 grams. The measurement turned out to be 509 grams which is just over the size they said it was going to be.
Did it meet the expectations?
I would say overall it met the expectations and after working with the yarn a little bit I think its very nice. I still want to try some of their DK yarn and cakes so even after this bag I’m probably going to buy some more of their yarn. I would even try to order another Lucky bag again. Overall I highly recommend Hobbii yarn.
